How do you surpass all expectations and create a feeling of luxury in the newly established Greenfield suburbs? Stepping foot into Fairhaven’s Lonsdale 409 display home in Victoria’s north it’s clear how that question can be answered when you have a great design team to work with.
Taylor Lott, the Product & Design Manager of Fairhaven Homes and Lovelight’s Alannah Pollett take us through the brief, their approach and revelations on this double storey display home.
Brief
The vision was always clear for this project according to Taylor who set out to create a modern, urban aesthetic:
‘We selected cool grey tones & contrasting natural oak to bring warmth to the home. A contrast of organic, textural hard surfaces against matte black detailing form a luxurious impression’ she says.
The greatest challenge however would be to create a spacious home on a standard sized block.
‘The building constraints of what is now a standard size block, within a greenfield project can be complicated to work within, but this stunning double storey home defies limitations.’
Armed with a clear vision which was articulated to perfection with a selection of wall, tile and carpet swatches, Alannah and the Lovelight team were quickly able to move to designing an appropriate window furnishings solution for the home. With our client’s client in mind– a design-savvy, growing new family, or, a chic, third home buyer in a knock-down rebuild project, we set off to work our magic together.

Approach
With a magnitude of stunning, architectural windows throughout the home, Taylor says she was initially hesitant to use many furnishings at all. But, starting with the spacious, hotel-like master suite, she discovered:
‘I couldn’t go past floor to ceiling sheers across three walls. A floor to ceiling sheer curtain is a staple for a ‘luxe feel in master bedrooms or living rooms.’
Reflecting on the master bedroom, she says:
‘The ambience is heavenly upon walking through to the master ensuite, with skylights flooding natural light into the room, I loved the idea of a contrasting textural dark sheer curtain behind a striking white freestanding bath.’

At this point, Taylor says the flow of continuity began, with the façade, and remaining windows in the second bedroom and study boasting the same gorgeous distinct sheer curtains.
‘I also specified slimline pelmets against the commercial grade windows in the main living areas and additional bedrooms to give a contemporary, yet homely feel’ she says.

Of course, this project also presented Alannah and the Lovelight team few challenges. One of those challenges lay with a custom solution for the bath space in the master ensuite:
‘This project presented us with a bath in the master ensuite that was far enough away from the wall to install a S-Fold Curtain in sheer fabric, [allowing fabric longevity in a wet space]. The results speak for themselves as it is a definitive statement in this house.’
‘There we some amazing large spaces that we had to work with throughout the home. In the theatre, we had the opportunity to offer a motorised wall to wall velvet curtain, really creating the luxe feel to this home’ Alannah explains.
Revelations
Taylor’s Lonsdale project could be ‘up there’ with Lovelight’s favourite Smart Builder homes.
Working with Taylor was refreshing, Alannah says:
‘Taylor has a real grasp on current trends, with darker fabrics that make rooms cosy and inviting. Her choices of furniture and styling details are on point, really hitting to today’s markets of clients of all ranges looking to renovate, build or restyle.’
And her favourite part? The chance to show off a motorised track in the theatre, which is a new product offering from Lovelight for display homes.
‘It is an exciting chance to showcase Lovelight’s ability to install these types of window furnishings during the building stage with our builder’s clients’ she explains.
According to Taylor, this project is indeed her favourite to date. She explains:
‘[of Fairhaven’s range] this home is most desirable for the sophisticated buyer. It’s astonishing how much a striking window furnishing can complement and really enhance the window style within a design, completely changing the aesthetic of a room.’
Taylor is pleased that the Lovelight team always manage to bring her vision to life:
‘Lovelight’s dedication to service and their team’s knowledge of fabrics is extensive makes the selection process much simpler. Whether it’s their on-site contacts or the inhouse team, they’re always extremely professional and a pleasure to deal with which is why I’ve trusted them in both my professional career and personal jobs.’
