Their latest project, Sorrento Terralsole, a stunning beach house, is a testament to their dedication to delivering unparalleled construction experiences. "Our client’s goal was to steer away from the typical Australian coastal aesthetic and instead replicate the timeless appeal of Mediterranean architecture," explains the team at W. Build.

The inspiration for this distinctive beach house came from a recent Tuscan holiday experienced by the clients. Enthralled by the rustic charm of a sun-baked winery in Montalcino, they decided to replicate that warmth and traditional aesthetic in their own Sorrento residence. The journey began with the selection of custom hand-cut terracotta tiles, which set the tone for the entire home's design.

Collaborating closely with B.E Architecture, the design and construction of this house was anything but ordinary. "One of the most playful features of the house is the front facade, which was hand-drawn and designed by the architect.”

Moving on to how the remarkable material palette came to life W. described how, "the warmth of the hand-cut Italian terracotta and the sophisticated feel of the royal travertine create an ambiance that’s both welcoming and distinctly upscale. However, the installation of these materials presented its own set of challenges.” The terracotta flooring in particular required a level of craftsmanship that few builders would be able to commit to, “as the selected tiles were not quite the right profile our stone masons painstakingly hand-cut each tile to half its size, dip-sealed them before laying them, and then applied a final coat upon completion, resulting in a warm, earthy, and tactile surface throughout the house.”

When it came to window furnishings, the clients were keen on maintaining consistency with the home’s overall Mediterranean theme. After a detailed consultation at Lovelight’s studio, a decision was made to go for natural linen curtains that not only complemented the terracotta tones but also echoed the casual yet luxe vacation vibe of the interiors. These were paired with brass curtain rods, which perfectly matched the aged brass hardware seen throughout the home.

In high-end constructions like these, choosing the right window furnishings involves more than just aesthetics as the W. team describes, "we look for reliability and quality in suppliers. The materials need to be top-notch, and the technology should bring both functionality and style to the forefront." This consistent approach ensures that every element, from the limewash on the walls to the travertine in the bathrooms, contributes to a coherent and exquisite living space.

Looking towards the future, W. Build sees a trend towards lighter, sheer fabrics for curtains which enhance rooms with a soft, ethereal quality while still embracing natural light. Furthermore, the integration of automation and smart home technologies into window furnishings is becoming increasingly popular, reflecting a shift towards more interactive and responsive living environments.

Through projects like these, W. Build not only builds houses but crafts homes that resonate with the stories and dreams of their clients, ensuring each space is not just seen but deeply felt. This blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern innovation continues to set them apart in the world of luxury construction, promising more groundbreaking projects in the years to come.
